Shanmukha (2025) Movie Review

The Mythology mystery added action thriller Movie Shanmukha is creative thought of the director. Adi sai kumar play key role in the movie and struggling to get success and this movie gives another disappointment.

Story of the movie:

Karthi (Aadi Sai Kumar), a police officer, loses his gun during a mission against a drug mafia. His past lover, Sara (Avika Gor), a criminology researcher, begins investigating a series of missing girls. Initially the hero does not believe Sara; Karthi soon realizes the horrifying truth and teams up with Sara to uncover the mystery.

Taking to the mystery, In a remote village with no medical facilities, very determined worshipper Vigand (Chirag Jani) and his wife give birth to a deformed child with six faces. Shocked by his son’s appearance, Vigand names him Shanmukha and seeks a way to turn him into a normal-looking boy. A sorcerer advises him to sacrifice young women of different zodiac signs to achieve this transformation. Desperate, Vigand, with the help of his brother-in-law, starts kidnapping and killing innocent girls.

The film follows their efforts to stop Vigand and save the victims. Did they succeed? Did Vigand’s evil wish come true? We need to find out answers on big screens only.

Analysis

Shanmukha is a devotional thriller, but it lacks both devotion and thrilling elements. The powerful title seems to have been selected first, with the script built around it. The idea of a six-faced child and human sacrifices sounds interesting but is executed poorly. The film struggles with a confusing timeline—while Karthi and Sara’s modern-day investigation suggests a contemporary setting, Vigand’s black magic rituals feel ancient. The narrative never settles into a clear direction, leaving audiences confused and illogical.

The screenplay is overly complicated, making it difficult to engage with the story. The film’s pacing is slow in the middle, and unnecessary diversions, such as drug mafia elements, make it feel disjointed. The final 20 minutes offer some gripping moments, showcasing the director’s potential, but it’s too little, too late.

Performances

Aadi Sai Kumar delivers a decent performance but lacks the screen presence needed for an impactful cop role. His action sequences are okayish, but the script doesn’t give him much scope to shine. Avika Gor fails to impress, both in terms of acting and screen presence. Chirag Jani, as the main villain, does an adequate job, but the weak screenplay hinders his performance. Aditya Om plays a supporting negative role but doesn’t leave a lasting impression. Shanmugam Sappani himself plays Bullet, a character with negative shades, while Krishnudu, Madhumani, Manoj Nandam, and others appear in minor roles.

Technical Aspects

The true highlight of the film is Ravi Basrur’s background score, who composed the music for the star movies Salar and KGF, which elevates several scenes. His music particularly stands out in the climax. Cinematography by RR Vishnu is decent, but the VFX falls short of expectations. The AI-generated song towards the end is an interesting experiment, but overall, the film’s technical execution is average.

Final Review:

Shanmukha had the potential to be a gripping thriller with a unique concept, but its execution is not up to the mark. The film is bogged down by an inconsistent screenplay, unnecessary diversions, and weak character development. While the climax and background score provide some redemption, the overall experience remains underwhelming. Shanmukha might appeal to fans of experimental thrillers, but for general audiences, it’s a missed opportunity.
